Sophie Hamel is a Los Angeles-based French writer. A PEN/Dau nominee, her short stories appeared in the Plentitudes Journal and the Summerset Review. Her debut novel, UNEARTHED - a finalist for the James Patterson book award grant - is being reviewed by agents. She serves as a prose editor for the Adroit Journal.

 

She received support from PEN America as a '24 PEN Emerging Voices Workshop LA fellow and Martha's Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing.

 

A former archaeologist with a Master’s degree of the ancient Mediterranean and Middle East from La Sorbonne and a postgraduate diploma from the Institute of Higher Studies in Art (IESA), Paris, she participated in numerous excavation campaigns in France and the Middle East, took a dive into the Indian contemporary art world while in Bangalore, before becoming a faculty manager for an online art school in the United States. She is now a creative writing mentor for WriteGirl and lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.
